Tuesday, March 23, 1999

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 10:00 a.m. this day, in the Baronet Room of the Hotel Halifax, Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Acting Chair, Sarmite Bulte, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Bob Speller, Darrel Stinson, Daniel Turp.

Acting Member present: Wendy Lill for Svend Robinson.

Associate Member present: Sarmite Bulte.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Nova Scotia Supply-Management Agriculture Group: Jack Johnson, Executive Director, Nova Scotia Milk Producers; Peter Hill, Vice-President of the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture; Ralph De Long, Chairman, Nova Scotia Egg Marketing Board; Stuart Allaby, Natural Products Marketing Council.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee continued its examination of Canada's trade objectives and the forthcoming agenda of the World Trade Organization (WTO). (See the Minutes of Proceedings of October 22, 1998, Meeting no. 73.)

At 10:00 a.m., Jack Jackson made an opening statement and, with Peter Hill, Ralph De Long and Stuart Allaby, answered questions.

At 11:44 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
