The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 8:35 a.m. this day, in William Pascoe Room of the Delta Bessborough Hotel in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the Vice-Chair, Colleen Beaumier, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Colleen Beaumier, Charlie Penson.

Associate Member present: Murray Calder.

Other Members present: Jim Pankiw and Chris Axworthy.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee continued its examination of Canada's trade objectives and the forthcoming agenda of the World Trade Organization (WTO). (See the Minutes of Proceedings, of October 22, 1998, Meeting no. 73).

Dr. Asit Sarkar, Professor John Foster, Professor Jim Handy and Dr. Peter Phillips, from the University of Saskatchewan, made statements and answered questions.

John Derbowka, from the Saskatchewan Council for International Cooperation and Warren Peterson, from the Saskatchewan Health Coalition, made statements.

Noreen Johns, from the Saskatchewan Women Agricultural Network, and Marvin Shauf, from the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, made statements and answered questions.

Don Anderson, from the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour, and Malcolm Matheson, from the Canadian Union of Public Employees, made statements and answered questions.

At 11:30 a.m., Murray Calder took the Chair.

At 11:50 a.m., Colleen Beaumier resumed the Chair.

Tim Quigley, from the Council of Canadians; Carolyn Taylor, from the Saskatchewan Environmental Society; John and Betsy Bury, from Veterans Against Nuclear Arms; Neil Sinclair, from the New Green Alliance; Garth C. Nelson, from Nature Saskatchewan, and John McConnell, made statements and answered questions.

At 12:57 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:14 p.m., the sitting resumed.
