Monday, December 2, 2002

The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in camera at 3:36 p.m., this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Yvon Godin, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mauril Bélanger, Eugène Bellemare, Yvon Godin, Scott Reid et Raymond Simard.

Acting Members present: Carmen Provenzano for Jeannot Castonguay, Rodger Cuzner for Yolande Thibault, Michel Guimond for Benoît Sauvageau.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament:  Marion Ménard, Analyst.

Participants: From Nelligan O'Brien Payne: Ronald Caza, Lawyer. As an individual: Mauril Bélanger, Ottawa, Ontario.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108, briefing session on Mr. Mauril Bélanger's intervener status in the Quigley case.

At 4:31 p.m., the Committee resumed sitting in public, the Chair, Mauril Bélanger, presiding.

Appearing: The Hon. Wayne Easter, Solicitor General of Canada.

Witnesses: From the Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Robert Boulet, Inspector, Executive Diplomatic Protection Section. From the Department of Justice: Marc Tremblay, General Counsel and Director, Department of Official Languages Law Group.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3), study on the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's policy regarding the issue of traffic tickets in Canada's Capital Region.

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:21 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
