MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 24

Tuesday, May 28, 2002

The Sub-Committee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Carolyn Bennett, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Carolyn Bennett, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Wendy Lill, Anita Neville, Tony Tirabassi.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Bill Young, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Department of Human Resources Development: Deborah Tunis, Director General, Office for Disability Issues; Pauline Myre, Director, Policy and Research; Georges Grujic, Director, Programs; Jane Clinckett, Special Advisor, Office of Disability Issues; Vangelis Nikias, Special Advisor.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the Sub-committee resumed its study of Canada Pension Plan Disability. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday April 9, 2002, Meeting no. 19).

The Witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 4:55 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:56 p.m., by unanimous consent, the Sub-Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

It was agreed, -That the Sub-Committee issue a media release to advertise the yearly Centennial Flame Research Award and Report.

It was agreed, - That the deadline for the acceptance of submissions for the Centennial Flame Research Award and Report be postponed until October 1st, 2002.

It was agreed, -That Mr. Vernon Short be selected as the winner of the 2002 Centennial Flame Research Award and Report.

It was agreed, – That the Sub-Committee issue a media release to advertise the launch of the new informational website about the Sub-Committee’s study on Canada Pension Plan Disability.

At 5:18 p.m., the Sub-Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
