MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 1

Wednesday, April 4, 2001

The Sub-Committee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:47 p.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Carolyn Bennett, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Carolyn Bennett, Reed Elley, Robert Lanctôt, Wendy Lill, and Janko Peric.

Acting Member present: Jim Abbot for Reed Elley

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Bill Young and Julie MacKenzie researchers.

The Sub-Committee proceeded to consider its future business.

It was agreed that the Sub-Committee would hold a round-table on April 25^th 2001 to hear from various Disability Advocacy groups on issues that the Sub-Committee may wish to explore.

It was agreed that the Sub-Committee endeavour to convene its meetings on Wednesday afternoons wherever possible.

It was agreed that the Sub-Committee invite Ministers and officials to give testimony about key issues relating to the work of the committee.

It was agreed that the Sub-Committee issue a media release to advertise the yearly Centennial Flame Research Award and Report.

It was agreed that the deadline for the acceptance of submissions for the Centennial Flame Research Award and Report be postponed until September 1^st, 2001.

At 5:14 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
