Wednesday, May 31, 2000
The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Joe Fontana, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Rob Anders, Jean Augustine, Leon Benoit, Bernard Bigras, Joe Fontana, Sophia Leung and Steve Mahoney.
Acting Member present: Lou Sekora for Rick Limoges.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Margaret Young, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: L. Denis Desautels, Auditor General of Canada; Richard Flageole, Assistant Auditor General; Serge Gaudet, Principal, Audit Operations.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to consider Chapter 3 (Citizenship and Immigration Canada - The Economic Component of the Canadian Immigration Program) of the Report of the Auditor General of Canada, April 2000.
L. Denis Desautels made a statement and, with the witnesses, answered questions.
At 5:16 p.m., the Committee adjourned until 9:00 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2000.
