Meeting No. 6

Thursday, November 25, 1999

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Vice- Chair, Steve Mahoney, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Rob Anders, Jean Augustine, Leon Benoit, Bernard Bigras, Rick Limoges, Steve Mahoney, John McKay, David Price and Andrew Telegdi.

Acting Member present: Jim Gouk for Jack Ramsay.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Margaret Young, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Department of the Solicitor General of Canada: Paul Kennedy, Senior Assistant Deputy Solicitor General, Policing and Security Branch; Jamie Deacon, Director, Anti-Organized Crime Division; Kenneth W. Moreau, Executive Assistant, Office of the Senior Assistant Deputy Solicitor General, Policing and Security Branch. From the Royal Canadian Mounted Police: René Charbonneau, Assistant Commissioner, Director, Federal Services; Raymond Lang, Superintent, Officer in charge, Immigration and Federal Branch, Federal Services Directorate, Sergeant Bill MacDonald, Senior Reviewer Analyst, Immigration & Federal Branch, Federal Services Directorate.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on all aspects of the Refugee Determination System and Illegal Migrants. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, November 3, 1999, Meeting No. 2)

Paul Kennedy from the Department of the Solicitor General of Canada made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10:03 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:07 a.m., the sitting resumed.

René Charbonneau from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 11:00 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
