MINUTES OF PROCEEDING

Tuesday, October 21, 1997

The Standing Committee on Finance met at 1:36 o’clock p.m., this day, in the Highland Suites 7 and 8, World Trade and Convention Centre, Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Maurizio Bevilacqua, Dick Harris, Gary Pillitteri, Karen Redman, Nelson Riis and Paul Szabo.

Acting Members present: Odina Desrochers for Yvon Loubier.

Other Member present: Scott Brison.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch: Marion Wrobel, Research Officer.

Witnesses: Round Table 3 -- From Results Canada: Chris Cann; Dr. Roger Wehrell. From the Canadian Pensioners Concerned NS Inc: Myrna Slater, Past National President; Joan F. Lay, President. From the Nova Scotia Advisory Council on the Status of Women: Stella Lord, Researcher; Patricia Doyle-Bedwell, President. From the Nova Scotia Disabled Persons Commission: Nita Irvine, President. From the Nova Scotia League for Equal Opportunities: Lorne Ryan, Executive Director. From the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour: Rick Clarke, President. From the Community Action Programme for Children Projects in Nova Scotia: Pauline Raven, President; Joanne Latulippe-Rochan. From Nova Scotia Council for the Family: Sue Wolstenholme, Member of the Executive.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 83.1, the Committee resumed its Pre-Budget Consultation study. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, October 15, 1997, Meeting No. 3).

The witnesses participating in Round Table Three made statements and answered questions.

At 3:10 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
