MINUTES OF PROCEEDING

Monday, October 27, 1997

The Standing Committee on Finance met in televised session at 12:41 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 237-C, Centre Block , the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mark Assad, Maurizio Bevilacqua, Roger Gallaway, Dick Harris, David Iftody, Jim Jones, Gilles A. Perron, Gary Pillitteri, Karen Redman, Nelson Riis, Paul Szabo, Paddy Torsney and Tony Valeri.

Acting Members present: Pauline Picard replaced Yvan Loubier.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch: Richard Domingue and Marion Wrobel, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Association of National Voluntary Organizations: Al Hatton; From the Child Welfare League of Canada: Mel Gil; From the Canadian Teachers’ Federation: Harvey Weiner, Deputy Secretary General; From the Learning Disabilities Association of Canada: Roy Cooper, Vice-President, Central Region; From the Canadian Institute of Child Health: Dr. Graham Chance, Jenni Tipper, Project and Research Analyst; From the Child Poverty Action Group: Christa Freiler, Program Director; From the Canadian Policy Research Network: Suzanne Peters.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 83.1, the Committee resumed its Pre-Budget Consultation Study. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, October 15, 1997, Meeting No. 3).

The witnesses participating in the round Table made statements and answered questions.

At 2:16 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
