The Sub-Committee on Corrections and Conditional Release Act of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Paul DeVillers, presiding.
Members of the Sub-Committee present: Paul DeVillers, Jim Gouk, Ivan Grose, Peter MacKay, Richard Marceau, Lynn Myers, Jacques Saada and Tom Wappel.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Lynn Casavant, Researcher; Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst.
Witnesses: From the Office of the Correctional Investigator: Ron Stewart, Correctional Investigator; Todd Sloan, Legal Counsel; Ed McIsaac, Executive Director; Georges Poirier, Director of Investigations; Jo-Ann Connolly, Investigator; Jim Hayes, Director of Investigations.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), a statutory review of the Corrections and Conditional Release Act.
Ron Stewart made an opening statement and with the other witnesses answered questions.
At 5:08 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 5:11 p.m., the sitting resumed.
Peter MacKay moved, - That the Sub-Committee call on Brendon Reynolds, a Correctional Services Canada official, to appear as a witness.
After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was negatived by a show of hands:
YEAS: 1 NAYS: 4.
At 5:26 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
