MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 3

Tuesday, February 9, 1999

The Sub-Committee on Corrections and Conditional Release Act of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Paul DeVillers, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Paul DeVillers, Jim Gouk, Ivan Grose, Richard Marceau, Jacques Saada and Tom Wappel.

Acting Member present: John Maloney for Lynn Myers.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Lynn Casavant, Researcher; Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst.

Witnesses: From the Church Council on Justice and Corrections: Marie Beemans, Member; From the Prisoners' Rights Committee: Sébastien Brousseau, President; From the Quebec Association of Social Rehabilitation Agencies: Jean-François Cusson, Project Agent.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), a comprehensive review of the Corrections and Conditional Release Act

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 5:13 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:14 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Sub-Committee proceeded to consider its future business.

It was agreed, - That the proposed travel itinerary for the week of March 1st to Abbottsford, Vancouver and Edmonton be approved with the addition of the Fernsdale Institution.

At 5:27 p.m., the Sub-Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
