MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 4

Monday, February 15, 1999

The Sub-Committee on Corrections and Conditional Release Act of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Paul DeVillers, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Paul DeVillers, Jim Gouk, Ivan Grose, Richard Marceau, Lynn Myers, Jacques Saada and Tom Wappel.

Other Member present: John Maloney.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Lynn Casavant, Researcher; Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst.

Witnesses: From the John Howard Society of Canada: Graham Stewart, Executive Director; From the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies: Kim Pate, Executive Director; From the St. Leonard's Society of Canada: Elizabeth White, Executive Director.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), a comprehensive review of the Corrections and Conditional Release Act.

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 5:17 p.m. the sitting was suspended.

At 5:20 p.m. the sitting resumed in camera.

The Sub-Committee considered its future business.

At 5:30 p.m., the Sub-Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
