MINUTES OF PROCEEDING
Thursday, October 30, 1997
The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 9:02 o’clock a.m., this day, in room Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Mark Assad, Maurizio Bevilacqua, David Iftody, Jim Jones, Yvan Loubier, Gary Pillitteri, Karen Redman, Gerry Ritz, Paul Szabo, Paddy Torsney and Tony Valeri.
Acting Member present: Grant McNally for Monte Solberg.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Marion Wrobel, Research Officer.
Witnesses: Round Table 1 -- From the National Anti-Poverty Organization: Lynne Toupin, Executive Director; Richard Shillington, Research Associate. From the Canadian Council for International Co-operation: Betty Plewes, President & CEO. From the International Centre for Human Rights and Democratic Development: The Honourable Warren Allmand, President. Round Table 2 – From the Automotive Industries Association of Canada: Dean Wilson, P. Eng., President. From the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA): David Leonhardt, Manager, Public and Government Relations. From the Canadian Federation of Independent Business: Catherine Swift, President & CEO; Garth Whyte, Vice President, National Affairs and Research. From the Tourism Industry Association of Canada: Debra Ward, President. From the Mining Association of Canada: C. George Miller, President; Dan Paszkowski, Vice President, Economic Affairs.
In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 83.1, the Committee resumed its Pre-Budget Consultation Study. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, October 15, 1997, Meeting No. 3).
The witnesses participating in Round Table One made statements and answered questions.
At 10:30 o’clock a.m., the sitting was suspended.
