The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, Niki Ashton, Joyce Bateman, Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe, Joan Crockatt, Anne-Marie Day, Roxanne James, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Hon. Judy Sgro, Susan Truppe and Wai Young.

 

Acting Members present: Joan Crockatt for Sana Hassainia.

 

Associate Members present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Shauna Troniak, Analyst; Havi Echenberg, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Human Rights Commission: David Langtry, Acting Chief Commissioner; Valerie Phillips, Legal counsel, Legal Advisory Services; Michael Smith, Senior Policy Analyst, National Aboriginal Initiative. As an individual: Kim Baird, Former Chief, Tsawwassen First Nation. Berens River First Nation: Joan Jack, Councillor.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, April 17, 2013, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill S-2, An Act respecting family homes situated on First Nation reserves and matrimonial interests or rights in or to structures and lands situated on those reserves.
 

David Langtry made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Jack Joan and Kim Baird made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
