The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in a televised session at 8:47 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Marie-Claude Morin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, Niki Ashton, Jay Aspin, Joyce Bateman, Anne-Marie Day, Sana Hassainia, Roxanne James, Marie-Claude Morin, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Hon. Judy Sgro, Susan Truppe and Wai Young.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst; Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst; Erin Shaw, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: House of Commons: Audrey O'Brien, Clerk of the House of Commons; Kathryn Butler Malette, Chief Human Resources Officer, Human Resources, Corporate Planning and Communications. Library of Parliament: Sonia L'Heureux, Parliamentary Librarian; Lynn Potter, Director General, Corporate Services. Department of National Defence: Karol Wenek, Director General Military Personnel, Chief Military Personnel; Cdr Tony Crewe, Director Human Rights and Diversity, Assistant Chief Military Personnel; Jacqueline Rigg, Director General, Civilian Human Resources Management Operations, Assistant Deputy Minister (Human Resources - Civilian); Susan Harrison, Director Civilian Labour Relations, Assistant Deputy Minister (Human Resources - Civilian); LCol Mark Gendron, Director of Law Military Personnel, Office of the Judge Advocate General.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of sexual harassment in the federal workplace.
 

Judy Sgro moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake an immediate and comprehensive study of the mandate assigned to Status of Women Canada, and that this study include a focus on strengthening the function of Status of Women Canada as a federal think-tank and problem resolution mechanism, and issues involving Canada’s Aboriginal population and the unique challenges faced by new Canadians.

Debate arose thereon.

 

It was agreed, — That the debate be now adjourned and be resumed during Committee business, immediately after the hearing of witnesses.

 

Audrey O'Brien and Sonia L'Heureux, made a statements and, with Kathryn Butler Malette, answered questions.

 

At 9:45 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:51 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Jacqueline Rigg, Karol Wenek, Cdr Tony Crewe and LCol Mark Gendron, answered questions.

 

At 10:31 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:35 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 10:44 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
