The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in a televised session at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Marie-Claude Morin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, Niki Ashton, Joyce Bateman, Joan Crockatt, Anne-Marie Day, Sana Hassainia, Roxanne James, Marie-Claude Morin, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Hon. Judy Sgro, Susan Truppe and Wai Young.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst; Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner: Mary Dawson, Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner; Denise Benoit, Director, Corporate Management. United Steelworkers: Paula Turtle, Canadian Counsel. Canadian Auto Workers: Vinay Sharma, Director of Human Rights.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of sexual harassment in the federal workplace.
 

Mary Dawson made a statement and, with Denise Benoit, answered questions.

 

At 11:52 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:56 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Paula Turtle and Vinay Sharma, by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:50 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:51 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Tenth Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows, be concurred in:

Your Subcommittee met on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

1. That, with regard to the Committee's study of sexual harassment in the federal workplace:

a) Organizations invited to appear as witnesses for the remainder of the hearings for the study be limited to a maximum of two representatives per organization.

b) The Committee invite the representatives of the Union of Solicitor General Employees to return before it at the earliest opportunity to answer questions.

 

At 1:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
