The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Niki Ashton, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, Niki Ashton, Joyce Bateman, Charmaine Borg, Mylène Freeman, Ed Holder, Roxanne James, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Hon. Judy Sgro, Susan Truppe and Wai Young.

 

Acting Members present: Irene Mathyssen for Sana Hassainia.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst; Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: Hugh Armstrong, Professor. Advocacy Centre for the Elderly: Judith A. Wahl, Executive Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, September 29, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of abuse of older women.
 

Hugh Armstrong and Judith A. Wahl made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:39 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet to discuss the study of violence against aboriginal women on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 and Thursday, November 17, 2011.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hear from witnesses in relation to its study on abuse of older women on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, and on Thursday, November 24, 2011 if necessary.

 

It was agreed, — That additional suggested witness lists for the study on abuse of older women be sent to the clerk by 5 p.m. on Monday, November 7, 2011.

 

At 5:19 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
