Wednesday, November 17, 1999
The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Maurizio Bevilacqua, Nick Discepola, Ken Epp, Roger Gallaway, Albina Guarnieri, Sophia Leung, Yvan Loubier, The Hon. Lorne Nystrom, Gary Pillitteri, Karen Redman and Paul Szabo.
Acting Member present: Jacques Saada for Roy Cullen.
Associate Member present: Carolyn Bennett.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Odette Madore and Jean Soucy, Researchers; Marion Wrobel, Senior Analyst.
Witnesses: From the Canadian Steel Producers' Association: Jean Van Loon, President. From the Building and Construction Trades Department: Joseph Maloney, Director of Canadian Affairs, National Office; Philip Benson, Government Affairs; Robert Robichaud, Staff Representative. From the International Association of Fire Fighters: Sean P. McManus, Canadian Director; Erik Leicht, Pension Chair, Ontario Professional Fire Fighters Association. From the Federation of Canadian Municipalities: Gilles Vaillancourt, Mayor of Laval, Québec; Sam Synard, President.
In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 83.1, the Committee resumed its Pre-Budget Consultations. (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, November 2, 1999, Meeting No. 2).
Jean Van Loon, Joseph Maloney, Sean McManus and Sam Synard made statements and, with the other participants in the roundtable, answered questions.
At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
