MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS
(Meeting No. 16)

TUESDAY, MAY 12, 1998

The Sub-Committee on the Study of Sport in Canada of the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 9:04 o’clock a.m., this day, in a televised session, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Dennis Mills, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Denis Coderre, Dennis Mills, Nelson Riis and Suzanne Tremblay.

Acting Members present: Andrew Telegdi for Albina Guarnieri; Mark Assad for Pat O'Brien; and John Cannis for George Proud.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Claude Blanchette, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: John Klassen, Director General, General Trade Policy Bureau and John Gero, Director General, Trade Policy Bureau II (EBD). From Appleton and Associates International Lawyers: Barry Appleton, Counsel and Marjan Neceski, Counsel.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed the consideration of the Study of Sport in Canada.

Barry Appleton and John Klassen made opening statements and, with John Gero and Marjan Neceski, answered questions.

At 10:32 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
