MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS
Thursday, October 16, 1997
The Standing Committee on Finance met at 1:13 o’clock p.m., this day in the Pacific Ballroom, Hotel Vancouver, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Maurizio Bevilacqua, Dick Harris, Jim Jones, Karen Redman, Nelson Riis, Hon. Monte Solberg, Paul Szabo and Tony Valeri.
Acting Members present: Odian Desrochers for Yvon Loubier.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Marion Wrobel, Research Officer.
Witnesses: Round Table 3 – From the City of Vancouver: His Worship Philip Owen. From the Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association of B.C.: Anthony Toth, President. From the Business Council of B.C.: Jock Finlayson. From the Canadian Business and Professions for Accountability Association: Patrick Wong, President; William H. Lim, Vice-President. From the Rental Housing Council of B.C.: Robert Orr; Tex Enemark, Executive Director. From the Greater Vancouver Gateway Council: Richard C. Pearce, CEO, Fraser River Commission. From the Vancouver Board of Trade: John Hansen, Chief Economist and Assistant Managing Director. From B.C. & Yukon Territory Building Construction Trades Council: Tony Tennessy. Round Table 4 – From the National Cancer Institute of Canada: Dr. Connie Eaves, President. From the Social Planning and Research Council of B.C.: Eva Robinson, Executive Director; Michael Goldberg, Research Director. From the Vancouver Foundation: Richard Mulcaster, President & CEO; Chris Richardson, Director, Gift and Planning. From the Western Canadian Wilderness: Paul George, Funding Director. In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 83.1 the Committee resumed its Pre-Budget Consultation study. (See Minutes of Proceedings and Evidence, Meeting No. 3, Wednesday, October 15, 1997).
At 1:13 o’clock p.m., the witnesses on RoundTable One made statements and answered questions.
At 2:59 o’clock p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 3:07 o’clock p.m., the sitting was resumed with Round Table Two.
The witnesses made statements and answered questions.
At 4:31 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
