Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on March 10, 2016, the Committee resumed its study of the manufacturing sector.

Motion

Lloyd Longfield moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

At 3:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:36 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

At 4:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:05 p.m., the sitting resumed.

At 4:07 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:09 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

The Committee resumed consideration of the motion of Ben Lobb, — That the Committee suspend its study of the manufacturing sector and commence a study on the independence of Statistics Canada.

The debate continued.

Motion

Brian Masse moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the word “sector” the following: “for two dates in October 2016”.

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Brian Masse and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Earl Dreeshen, Ben Lobb, Brian Masse, Alexander Nuttall — 4;

NAYS: Chandra Arya, Frank Baylis, Majid Jowhari, Lloyd Longfield, Terry Sheehan — 5.

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Earl Dreeshen, Ben Lobb, Brian Masse, Alexander Nuttall — 4;

NAYS: Chandra Arya, Frank Baylis, Majid Jowhari, Lloyd Longfield, Terry Sheehan — 5.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

Motion

Alexander Nuttall moved, — That, as part of the Committee’s study on the manufacturing sector, the Committee invite the Liberal Party donor, and the quote “innovation leader,” Valerie Fox, appointed by Minister Bains on June 14, to appear before the Committee to speak about how we can make manufacturing more innovative.

Motion

Lloyd Longfield moved, — That the debate be now adjourned.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 4.

Alexander Nuttall moved, — That, as part of the Committee’s study on manufacturing sector, the Committee invite the Liberal Party donor, and the quote “innovation leader,” Austin Hill, appointed by Minister Bains on June 14th, to appear before the Committee to speak about how we can make manufacturing more innovative.

Debate arose thereon.

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
