Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, December 13, 2017, and section 92 of the Copyright Act, the Committee resumed the statutory review of the Act.

Kate Cornell, David Yazbeck, Robin Sokoloski and Elisabeth Schlittler made statements and, with Patrick Lowe, answered questions.

At 4:52 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:56 p.m., the sitting resumed.

On motion of Brian Masse, it was agreed, — That the deadline for the receipt of briefs in relation to the Statutory Review of the Copyright Act be Monday, December 10, 2018.

Motion

Dan Albas moved, — To assist in the review of the Copyright Act, that the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology requests Ministers Freeland and Bains, alongside officials, to come before the committee and explain the impacts of the United-States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) on the intellectual property and copyright regimes in Canada.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Dan Albas, Michael D. Chong, Kerry Diotte, Brian Masse — 4;

NAYS: Celina Caesar-Chavannes, Majid Jowhari, Kamal Khera, Lloyd Longfield, Terry Sheehan — 5.
