Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, June 14, 2017 and section 65 of An Act to promote the efficiency and adaptability of the Canadian economy by regulating certain activities that discourage reliance on electronic means of carrying out commercial activities, and to amend the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission Act, the Competition Act, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act and the Telecommunications Act, the Committee resumed the statutory review of the Act.

Terry Sheehan gave notice of the following motion:

That the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology study the Canadian steel industry and make recommendations to the government for the implementation of a strategy for the Canadian steel industry.

Stephanie Provato, Wally Hill, David Elder, Andrew Schiestel and Jason McLinton made statements and answered questions.

Lloyd Longfield gave notice of the following motion:

That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake a study on the future of digital commerce in Canada with the goal of examining best practices and opportunities for Canadian e-commerce including the use of new commerce platforms such as fintech and blockchain; and that the Committee report its findings to the House.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

At 12:53 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
