The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Jerry Pickard, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Yvon Charbonneau, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Inky Mark, Anita Neville, Jerry Pickard, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.
Acting Members present: Andrew Telegdi for Steve Mahoney, Betty Hinton for Lynne Yelich.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Benjamin Dolin and Margaret Young; Researchers.
Witnesses: From the Amnesty International (Canada): Alex Neve, Secretary General, English Section; Michael Bossin, Past President, Refugee Network. From the Canada Employment and Immigration Union: Jeannette Meunier-McKay, National President; Janina Lebon, National Vice-President; Alan Lennon, Senior Union Representative. From the Canadian Council for Refugees: Janet Dench, Executive Director; Nick Summers, Vice President. From the "Table de concertation des organismes au service des personnes réfugiées et immigrantes": Michèle Jenness; Richard Goldman. From the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees: Judith Kumin, Representative in Canada; Buti Kale, Senior Protection Officer.
Pursuant to its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations ( Safethird Country Agreement).
Alex Neve and Michael Bossin made opening statements and answered questions.
Jeannette Meunier-McKay made an opening statement and with the other witness answered questions.
Richard Goldman and Michèle Jenness made opening statements and answered questions.
Judith Kumin made an opening statement and with the other witness answered questions.
At 6:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
