Meeting No. 11

Tuesday, December 3, 2002

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Joe Fontana, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Yvon Charbonneau, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Joe Fontana, Inky Mark, Anita Neville, Jerry Pickard, David Price, Judy Wasylycia-Leis, Lynne Yelich.

Acting Members present:  Joseph Volpe for Steve Mahoney, Andrew Telegdi for John Godfrey.

Other member present: John Bryden.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Benjamin Dolin and Margaret Young; Researchers.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Citizenship Judges: Agnès Jaouich, Senior Citizenship Judge. From the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages: Dyane Adam, Commissioner of Official Languages; Carsten Quell, Senior Officer, Liaison and Part VII.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Friday, November 8, 2002, the Committee resumed debate on Clause 2, consideration of Bill C-18, An Act respecting Canadian citizenship (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, November 21, 2002, Meeting No. 6).

Agnès Jaouich made an opening statement and answered questions.

Dyane Adam made an opening statement and with the other witness answered questions.

At 11:29 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
