The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:40 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Patrick Brown, Ruby Dhalla, Hon. Ken Dryden, Russ Hiebert, Mike Lake, Yves Lessard, Michael Savage, Mario Silva and Lynne Yelich.

 

Acting Members present: Libby Davies for Tony Martin and Carole Lavallée for France Bonsant.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Analyst. House of Commons: Graeme Truelove, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Retail Council of Canada: Kim Furlong, Director, Government Relations. Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec: Bernard Hogue, Vice-President, Public Affairs. Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations: David Law, Chair; Robin Rensby, Senior Director, Human Resources. Canadian Council of Chief Executives: David Stewart-Patterson, Executive Vice-President.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, October 25, 2006, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-257, An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code (replacement workers).
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:15 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:16 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Ruby Dhalla, it was agreed, — That the following report from the Sub-committee on Agenda and Procedure be adopted:

That the following working calendar be recommended to the Committee:

February 13: Technical briefing with Department officials on Bill C-257;

February 14 and 15: Clause-by-Clause of Bill C-257;

February 20 and 22: Study and Clause-by-Clause of Bill C-36;

February 27 and March 1st: Study and Clause-by-Clause of Bill C-269 and Bill C-278;

February 27 and March 1st: Study and Clause-by-Clause of Bill C-269 and Bill C-278;

March 20, 22, 27: Employability in Canada (hearing of witnesses);

March 29: In camera meeting providing instructions to the Analysts for the Report on Employability in Canada;

April: Study of Bill C-303 and Bill C-284 .

 

At 5:20 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
