Meeting No. 30

Monday, June 2, 2003

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 3:40 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, David Pratt, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Leon Benoit, Robert Bertrand, Cheryl Gallant, Dominic LeBlanc, Joe McGuire, Anita Neville, David Pratt, David Price.

Acting Members present: John O’Reilly for Ivan Grose, Alan Tanks for Janko Perić, Raymond Simard for Lawrence O’Brien.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Michel Rossignol and David Goetz, Research Officers.  From the Committees Branch: Susan Baldwin, Legislative Clerk.

Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: LCol André Dufour, Director, Legislative and Regulatory Services; LCol Patrick Gleeson, Special Assistant, Judge Advocate General; Maj Doug Elderkin, Directorate of Pay Policy Development.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference dated Monday, May 5, 2003, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-35, An Act to amend the National Defence Act (remuneration of military judges).

Lieutenant-Colonel Dufour made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions. 

The Committee proceeded to Clause-by-Clause consideration of the Bill.

Clauses 1 to 11 carried severally.

The Title carried.

The Bill carried.

ORDERED, -- That the Chair report Bill C-35, without amendment, to the House as the Second Report of the Committee.

At 4:20 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
