The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 8:47 a.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen Street, the Vice-Chair, Chris Charlton, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, Brad Butt, Chris Charlton, Rodger Cuzner, Joe Daniel, François Lapointe, Kellie Leitch, Colin Mayes and Phil McColeman.

 

Acting Members present: Colin Carrie for Colin Mayes, Anne-Marie Day for François Lapointe, Greg Kerr for Ed Komarnicki, Hon. Rob Moore for Devinder Shory and Marc-André Morin for Ryan Cleary.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Gruescu, Analyst; André Léonard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Hon. Pierre-Hugues Boisvenu, Senator. Canadian Cancer Society: Denise Page, Senior Health Policy Analyst. As an individual: Jane Kittmer. Canadian Paediatric Society: Marie Adèle Davis, Executive Director. Canadian Labour Congress: Angella MacEwen, Senior Economist. Cavalluzzo Hayes Shilton McIntyre & Cornish LLP: Stephen Moreau, Lawyer.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, October 2, 2012, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-44, An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code and the Employment Insurance Act and to make consequential amendments to the Income Tax Act and the Income Tax Regulations.
 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the routine motion adopted on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, the Committee will allow each party to ask Senator Boisvenu a question directly after his statement, after which time the Committee will proceed with the statements from the other witnesses and the questioning of witnesses as outlined in the routine motion.

 

Senator Boisvenu made a statement and answered questions.

 

Denise Page, Jane Kittmer and Marie Adèle Davis made statements and answered questions.

 

At 9:46 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:52 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Angella MacEwen, and Stephen Moreau, by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario, made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Brad Butt, it was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

At 10:31 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:33 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the meeting of Thursday, November 8, 2012 be cancelled.

 

At 10:36 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
