The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:03 a.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, Ed Komarnicki, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, Brad Butt, Chris Charlton, Rodger Cuzner, Joe Daniel, Ed Komarnicki, Kellie Leitch, Colin Mayes and Phil McColeman.

 

Acting Members present: Joyce Bateman for Devinder Shory, Alexandre Boulerice for Ryan Cleary and Annick Papillon for François Lapointe.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Gruescu, Analyst; André Léonard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As individuals: Ross Finnie, Professor, Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, University of Ottawa; David Gray, Professor of Economics, University of Ottawa. Social Planning and Research Council of Hamilton: Sara Mayo, Social Planner.

 

At 11:04 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:05 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
Pursuant to the Centennial Flame Research Award Act and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, April 25, 2013, the Committee commenced its study of the 2013 Centennial Flame Research Award.
 

It was agreed, — That Sara Carleton be the recipient of the 2013 Centennial Flame Research Award and that a Press Release be published on the Committee's Website.

 

At 11:07 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:09 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, April 18, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of opportunities for older persons in the workforce.
 

Sara Mayo, by videoconference from Hamilton, Ontario, Ross Finnie and David Gray, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 11:50 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
