The Subcommittee on Public Safety and National Security of the Standing Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to S. O. 106(1).

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Joe Comartin, Hon. Roy Cullen, Peter MacKay, Serge Ménard, Kevin Sorenson, Tom Wappel and Paul Zed.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Principal.

 

Witnesses: American Center for Democracy: Rachel Ehrenfeld, Director. B.C. Civil Liberties Association: Jason Gratl, President. Mackenzie Institute: John Thompson, President.

 
The Clerk of the Subcommittee presided over the election of a Chair.

On motion of Roy Cullen, it was agreed that Paul Zed be elected Chair of the Subcommittee.

 

The Clerk of the Subcommittee presided over the election of the Vice-Chairs.

On motion of Peter Mackay, it was agreed that Kevin Sorenson be elected as first Vice-Chair of the Subcommittee.

On motion of Kevin Sorenson, it was agreed that Serge Ménard be elected as second Vice-Chair of the Subcommittee.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of November 22, 2004, the Subcommittee resumed its study of the Anti-terrorism Act.
 

Rachel Ehrenfeld and John Thompson made statements and answered questions.

Jason Gratl made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:35 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
