The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 1:04 p.m. this day, in the Wascana Ballroom, Regina Inn, Regina, Saskatchewan, the Chair, Andrew Telegdi, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. David A. Anderson, Roger Clavet, Rahim Jaffer, Bill Siksay, Andrew Telegdi and Lui Temelkovski.

 

Associate Members present: Nina Grewal.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Benjamin Dolin, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Medical Forum: Peter Barrett, Chairman; Stewart M. Hamilton, President, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; Calvin Gutkin, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, College of Family Physicians of Canada; Dennis Kendel, Registrar, College of Physisicans and Surgeons of Saskatchewan; Jason Kur, Chair, Advisory Committee on IMGs and Vice-President Professional - Canadian Association of Internes and Residents; Todd Watkins, Director, Office of Professional Services and Coordinator. Saskatchewan Intercultural Association: Kebrom Haimanot, Member, Board of Directors. As an Individual: Joseph Garcea, Professor, Department of Political Studies, University of Saskatchewan. City of Regina: Pat Fiacco, Mayor; Larry Hiles, Chief Executive Officer, Regina Regional Economic Development Authority.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, October 27, 2004, the Committee resumed its study of Recognition of the International Experience and Credentials of Immigrants.
 

Peter Barrett made a statement and, with Stewart M. Hamilton, Calvin Gutkin, Dennis Kendel, Jason Kur and Todd Watkins answered questions.

 

At 1:50 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:54 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, October 27, 2004, the Committee resumed its study of Family Reunification Issues.
 

Kebrom Haimanot made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 2:14 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:19 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, October 27, 2004 the Committee resumed its study on Citizenship Issues.
 

Joseph Garcea made a statement and answered questions.

Pat Fiacco made a statement and, with Larry Hiles answered questions.

 

At 3:57 p.m., the Committee adjourned until 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2005.
