The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 11:11 a.m. this day, in Room 209 West Block, the Chair, Andrew Telegdi, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: David A. Anderson, Colleen Beaumier, Roger Clavet, Meili Faille, Helena Guergis, Bill Siksay, Andrew Telegdi and Lui Temelkovski.

 

Acting Members present: Borys Wrzesnewskyj for Hedy Fry.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Benjamin Dolin, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Association of Canadian Community Colleges: Terry-Anne Boyles, Vice-President, Members Services and Public Policy. Canadian Labour Congress: David Onyalo, National Director, Anti-Racism & Human Rights Department. Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council: Philip Mondor, Vice-President and Directior of Development. Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada: John Pugsley, Registrar-Treasurer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, October 27, 2004, the Committee resumed its study of Recognition of the International Experience and Credentials of Immigrants.
 

Terry-Anne Boyles, David Onyalo, John Pugsley and Philip Mondor made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:24 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:35 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The Chair presented the Third Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

It was agreed, - That the Committee undertake a report on Revocation.

It was agreed, - That the Committee not hear the Minister on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 as the Main Estimates have been withdrawn from the Committee.

It was agreed, - That the Committee have a briefing from the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada on Canadian War Brides from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2005.

It was agreed, - That the Committee commence consideration of a Draft Report on Revocation on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 from 12:15 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

 

Lui Temelkovski moved, — That the Third Report be amended in paragraph 3 by striking out 12:15 p.m. and replacing it with 12 noon and also adding the following after 2005 in paragraph 3.

That the Committee invite Melynda Jarratt, a representative from the Canadian War Brides to appear on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 from 12 noon to 12:30 p.m.

The question being put on the amendment, it was agreed to.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the report of the Subcommittee, as amended, be concurred in.

 

At 12:37 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:38 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 1:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
