The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Vice-Chair, Walt Lastewka, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Stéphane Bergeron, Claude Drouin, Walt Lastewka, Dan McTeague, James Rajotte and Chuck Strahl.

OtherMember present: Pat Martin.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw and Geoffrey P. Kieley, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From WestJet Airlines: Clive Beddoe, Chief Executive Officer. From the Department of Industry: Konrad von Finckenstein, Commissioner of Competition, Competition Act, Competition Bureau; Marcel Morin, Acting Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Competition, Legislative Affairs Division, Competition Policy Branch; François-Bernard Côté, Director, Competition Law Division, Departmental Legal Services. As Individual: Peter Townley, Professor, T.D. MacDonald Chair, Dalhousie University.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Thursday, May 3, 2001, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-23, An Act to amend the Competition Act and the Competition Tribunal Act (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, October 4, 2001, Meeting No. 37).

Clive Beddoe made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 4:21 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:22 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Konrad von Finckenstein made an opening statement and, with François Côté answered questions.

Peter Townley made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 5:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
