Tuesday, December 1st, 1998
The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:02 a.m., this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, John Harvard, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Hélène Alarie, Garry Breitkreuz, Murray Calder, John Harvard, Howard Hilstrom, Jake Hoeppner, Larry McCormick, Joe McGuire and Rose-Marie Ur.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Researcher and Jean-Denis Fréchette, Economist.
Witnesses: From the Dairy Farmers of Canada: Leo Bertoia, Second Vice-President (Saskatchewan); Richard Doyle, Executive Director. From the Food and Consumer Products Manufacturers of Canada (Toronto): George Fleischmann, President; Laurie Curry, Vice-President, Public Policy and Scientific Affairs; John Pigott, President and Chief Executive Officer, Morrisson Lamothe. From the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association: Larry Maguire, President; Kevin Archibald, Vice-President; Paul D. Earl, Manitoba Policy Manager.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee resumed the "Take Note" Hearings on the Upcoming World Trade Organization (WTO) Negotiations on agriculture -- (See Minutes of the committee of October 22, 1998, Meeting No. 50).
George Fleischmann, Larry Maguire and Leo Bertoia made opening statements and, with other witnesses, answered questions.
At 10:57 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
