The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-food met at 9:11 a.m., this day, in Room
269, West Block, Joe McGuire, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Hélène Alarie, Paul Bonwick, Rick Borotsik, Jake E. Hoeppner, Larry McCormick, Joe McGuire and Rose-Marie Ur.
Acting Members present: Ovide Jackson for Murray Calder and Sarkis Assadourian for Paul Steckle.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch: Sonya Dakers, Research Coordinator and Frédéric Forge, Researcher.
Witnesses: From the Ontario Agri-Food Technologies: Dr. Murray McLaughlin, President. From Nexia Biotechnologies: Jeff Turner, President and CEO, Transgenic Animals, Farmer and Goat Breeder (Quebec). From BIOTECanada: Joyce Groote, President; Rick Walter, Vice-President.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2). The Committee resumed its study of Biotechnology as part of its input into the Canadian Biotechnology Strategy -- (Industry and Product Outlook).
The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.
At 10:59 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
