Meeting No. 60

Tuesday, November 24, 1998

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:04 a.m., this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, John Harvard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Paul Bonwick, Garry Breitkreuz, Murray Calder, Odina Desrochers, John Harvard, Howard Hilstrom, Jake Hoeppner, Larry McCormick, Joe McGuire, Denis Paradis, Dick Proctor and Rose-Marie Ur.

Other Member present: Charlie Penson.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Researcher and Jean-Denis Fréchette, Economist.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Agri-Food Marketing Council: Myles Frosst, Executive Director. From the Canadian Cattlemen's Association: Neil Jahnke, Chairman, Foreign Trade Committee; Jim Caldwell, Director, Government Affairs. From the United Grain Growers: Ted Allen, President and Chairman of the Board.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee resumed the "Take Note" Hearings on the Upcoming World Trade Organization (WTO) Negotiations on agriculture -- (See Minutes of the committee of October 22, 1998, Meeting No. 50).

Myles Frosst, Neil Jahnke and Ted Allen made opening statements and, with the other witness, answered questions.

At 10:58 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
