Committee Business

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the motions adopted on Thursday, May 23, 2024 and Wednesday, September 18, 2024, the Minister of Diversity, Inclusion and Persons with Disabilities appear before the committee on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the motion adopted on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, Catherine Tait, President and CEO of the CBC of CBC/Radio-Canada, and Michael Goldbloom, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of CBC/Radio-Canada, appear before the committee on Monday, October 21, 2024.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee invite the Minister of Canadian Heritage to appear for one hour and department officials to appear for the second hour of the same meeting, in relation to the Minister’s mandate and that this meeting take place prior to the Minister taking parental leave.

At 4:50 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 5:01 p.m., the meeting resumed.

It was agreed, — That, given that there is an unacceptable rise of violent attacks on churches, mosques, synagogues, temples, and other places of worship across Canada, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee dedicate a minimum of four meetings to study the attacks on places of worship and their associated buildings, as well as to provide solutions and recommendations to address this problem.

At 5:25 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 5:27 p.m., the meeting resumed.

Tech Giants’ Current and Ongoing Use of Intimidation and Subversion Tactics to Evade Regulation in Canada and Across the World

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Monday, March 20, 2023, the committee resumed its study of tech giants’ current and ongoing use of intimidation and subversion tactics to evade regulation in Canada and across the world.

The committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

At 5:54 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
