The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 12:04 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Rodney Weston, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, Patricia Davidson, Randy Kamp, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Robert Sopuck, Philip Toone, Jonathan Tremblay, John Weston, Rodney Weston and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Acting Members present: Dany Morin for Robert Chisholm and Peter Stoffer for Fin Donnelly.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Thai Nguyen, Analyst; Tim Williams, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Hon. Fabian Manning, Senator; Hon. Dennis Glen Patterson, Senator.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, June 11, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of Northern and Arctic fisheries.
 

Senator Fabian Manning and Senator Dennis Glen Patterson made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Lawrence MacAulay moved, — That, due to the significant concerns over the sustainability of Canada’s search and rescue services raised by the Spring 2013 Report of the Auditor General, the Committee immediately undertake a study on the Canadian Coast Guard's search and rescue capabilities and challenges to be tabled in the House of Commons no later than June 2013, and begin the study by calling Auditor General Michael Ferguson and Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Keith Ashfield as witnesses.

 

Randy Kamp moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 5.

 

At 1:02 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:02 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee do now adjourn.

 

At 1:04 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
