The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera at 11:12 a.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Rodney Weston, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, Robert Chisholm, Patricia Davidson, Randy Kamp, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Robert Sopuck, Philip Toone, Jonathan Tremblay, John Weston, Rodney Weston and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Acting Members present: Ryan Cleary for Fin Donnelly.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Thai Nguyen, Analyst; Tim Williams, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Fourth Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows, be concurred in as amended:

Your Subcommittee met on Thursday, February 14, 2013, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

1. That, on February 26, 2013, the Committee commence its study of a draft report on Invasive Species.

2. That, on February 28, 2013, the Committee resume its study of a draft report on Aquaculture.

3. That, following the tabling in the House of the Supplementary Estimates, two meetings be dedicated to study the Estimates, on March 5 and 7, 2013, with departmental officials and, that the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans be invited to appear at one of the meetings. The main subjects will be:

a) Fisheries Management Issues;

b) Coast Guards and Oceans.

4. That, the Committee resume its study of the draft report on Invasive Species on March 19, 2013, till its adoption by the Committee.

5. That, following the adoption of the draft report on Invasive Species, if time permits, the Committee hold meetings with provincial officials and, if possible, with provincial Ministers on the lobster and other fisheries issues.

6. That, the study of Northern and Arctic Fisheries be undertaken immediately after the meeting with provincial officials and, that Department of Fisheries and Oceans officials be invited to appear before the Committee to brief and provide advices about challenges and opportunities regarding the Northern and Arctic Fisheries.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of closed containment salmon aquaculture.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: "Closed Containment Salmon Aquaculture".

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analyst be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

 

At 11:58 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
