The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Rodney Weston, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, Ryan Cleary, Patricia Davidson, Fin Donnelly, Rosane Doré Lefebvre, Bryan Hayes, Randy Kamp, Ryan Leef, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Robert Sopuck, Jonathan Tremblay and Rodney Weston.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Kristen E. Courtney, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Town of Port McNeill: Gerry Furney, Mayor; Neil Smith, Manager, Regional Economic Development.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans be invited to appear before the Committee, for the full two hour, in relation to the Estimates on March 14, 2012, and that the meeting be televised.

 

At 3:57 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:13 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of closed containment salmon aquaculture.
 

Gerry Furney made a statement and, with Neil Smith, answered questions.

 
The Committee resumed consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Fin Donnelly gave the following notice of motion:

— That, because fleet separation and owner operator policy is critical to coastal communities and protecting independent fishers in the inshore fishery, the Committee reaffirms its support for fleet separation and owner operator vessels in the inshore fishery and opposes any move to eliminate this policy.

 

At 5:23 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
