The Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, the Hon. Shawn Murphy, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Kelly Block, Paul Calandra, Patricia Davidson, Hon. Wayne Easter, Carole Freeman, Hon. Shawn Murphy, Pierre Poilievre and Ève-Mary Thaï Thi Lac.

 

Acting Members present: Pat Martin for Bill Siksay and Alexandra Mendes for Hon. Wayne Easter.

 

Associate Members present: James Rajotte.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Élise Hurtubise-Loranger, Analyst; Dara Lithwick, Analyst. House of Commons: Jean-François Pagé, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: Nigel Wright. Privy Council Office: Joe Wild, Assistant Secretary to the Cabinet, Machinery of Government.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(h)(vi) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, the Committee commenced its study regarding the nomination of Nigel Wright.
 

Nigel Wright made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

 

At 5:12 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:14 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Chair presented the Fourth Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

Your Subcommittee met on Tuesday, November 2, 2010, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

Tuesday, November 16:

Invite the Information Commissioner, Suzanne Legault, on the study on Open Government.

Tuesday, November 23:

Invite the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and the Department of the Environment to appear on the note obtained in the Report Cards of the Information Commissioner.

 

On motion of Patricia Davidson, it was agreed, — That the report of the Subcommittee be concurred in.

 

At 5:24 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
