Tuesday, June 18, 2002
The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met in a televised session at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Charles L. Caccia, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Roy Bailey, Bernard Bigras, Charles L. Caccia, Joe Comartin, John Herron, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Karen Kraft Sloan, Karen Redman, Julian Reed, Andy Savoy, Hélène Scherrer, Alan Tonks.
Acting Members present: Larry Bagnell for Rick Laliberté, John Reynolds for Gary Lunn, Gerry Ritz for Bob Mills and Serge Cardin for Marcel Gagnon.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Kristen Douglas and Tim Williams, analysts.
Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Monday, June 4, 2001, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-19, An Act to amend the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, December 4, 2001, Meeting No. 56).
On motion of Julian Reed, it was agreed, - That the Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development retain the services of Stephen Hazell to write a report outlining a new vision for environmental assessment.
Joe Comartin moved, - That the Committee’s schedule relating to clause by clause study of Bill C-19, an Act to amend the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, be postponed until September, 2002.
After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was agreed to by a show of hands.
At 9:45 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
