A meeting of the Board of Internal Economy of the House of Commons was held on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at 11:04 a.m., in Room 225-A, West Block.

NEW MEMBERS OF THE BOARD

Pursuant to section 50(5) of the Parliament of Canada Act, Mr. John Brassard (February 7, 2022) and Mr. Blaine Calkins (February 7, 2022) were recently sworn in as members of the Board.


APPOINTMENT OF BOARD SPOKESPERSON

Pursuant to Standing Order 37(2), Mr. Blaine Calkins was appointed to act as spokesperson for the Board, replacing Mr. Blake Richards.


MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS

The minutes of the meeting of December 16, 2021, were adopted and approved for tabling.


At 11:07 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:10 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.


SECURITY MATTERS

The Board discussed a security matter.


EMPLOYMENT MATTERS

The Board approved the extension of the current COVID-19 preventative measures until March 11, 2022.


At 12:52 p.m., the meeting resumed in public.


INTERIM BUDGET FOR THE SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON AFGHANISTAN

The Board approved the interim budget of $50,000 to finance the activities of the Special Committee on Afghanistan, to be allocated from the 2021–2022 and/or 2022–2023 global budget envelopes for standing committees.


RATIFICATION OF WALKAROUNDS

COVID-19 preventative measures – February 28, 2022

The Board agreed on January 27 to extend the COVID-19 preventative measures calling for the use of non medical masks / face coverings in the House of Commons Precinct and in constituency offices until February 28, 2022.


Procurement of COVID-19 rapid antigen tests

The Board agreed on February 3 to the procurement and distribution of COVID-19 rapid antigen tests for the occupational use of Members, House Officers, Presiding Officers and their respective employees as a charge against the central budget, up to established caps, until March 31, 2022.
