Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2018-19: Vote 1 under Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, Vote 1 under Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety and Votes 1 and 5 under Department of Employment and Social Development, referred to the Committee on Monday, April 16, 2018.

Motion

Brigitte Sansoucy moved, — That the Committee undertake a study of a minimum of six meetings on the Employment Insurance sickness benefits program to examine especially, but not exclusively:

a) if the program meets the real needs of the claimants;

b) the impact of the length of the benefits on the claimants and on their recovery;

c) the program accessibility;

d) the population affected by this program and their characteristics;

and that it hear, not limited to this list, witnesses from the health sector, former claimants or groups representing them, the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development; and that it report on its conclusions to the House.

Mona Fortier moved, — That the debate be now adjourned.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Mona Fortier, Wayne Long, Robert J. Morrissey, Dan Ruimy, Ramesh Sangha — 5;

NAYS: Steven Blaney, Rosemarie Falk, Brigitte Sansoucy, Mark Warawa — 4.

The Committee resumed consideration of Main Estimates 2017-18: Vote 1 under Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, Vote 1 under Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, Votes 1 and 5 under Department of Employment and Social Development.

The Chair called Vote 1 under Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.

Minister Duclos made a statement.

At 4:33 p.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

At 4:37 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:21 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Minister Hajdu and Minister Duncan made statements.

At 5:34 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
