The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, Mike Wallace, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dan Albas, Scott Armstrong, Françoise Boivin, Robert Goguen, Pierre Jacob, Hoang Mai, Kyle Seeback, Mike Wallace and David Wilks.

 

Acting Members present: Sean Casey for Hon. Irwin Cotler, Dave MacKenzie for Kyle Seeback, Dany Morin for Wayne Marston and Susan Truppe for Brent Rathgeber.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Cynthia Kirkby, Analyst; Dominique Valiquet, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Hon. Hedy Fry, P.C., M.P., Vancouver Centre. As an individual: Shaheen Shariff, Associate Professor, Department of Integrated Studies in Education, McGill University. PREVNet (Promoting Relationships and Eliminating Violence Network): Wendy Craig, Scientific Co-Director, Professor of Psychology, Queen's University. Canadian Association of Police Boards: Cathryn Palmer, Vice-President.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, June 6, 2012, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-273, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (cyberbullying).
 

Hedy Fry made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Shaheen Shariff, Wendy Craig and Cathryn Palmer, by videoconference from Edmonton, Alberta, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
