The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 11:40 a.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Ron Cannan, Don Davies, Hon. Wayne Easter, Russ Hiebert, Ed Holder, Gerald Keddy, Hon. Rob Merrifield, Marc-André Morin, Annick Papillon, Bev Shipley and Devinder Shory.

 

Acting Members present: Sylvain Chicoine for Annick Papillon and Laurin Liu for Jasbir Sandhu.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Council of Canadians: Stuart Trew, Trade Campaigner. University of Toronto: Wendy Dobson, Professor of International Business, Director, Institute for International Business. Canadian Auto Workers: James Stanford, Economist.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of a comprehensive and high-level economic partnership agreement (EPA) with Japan.
 

Stuart Trew, Wendy Dobson, by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario, and James Stanford, by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:55 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:56 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of a comprehensive and high-level economic partnership agreement (EPA) with Japan, the proposed budget in the amount of $173,526.02, for the Committee’s travel to Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, Japan, during the period from August to November 2012, be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Subcommittee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee.

 

At 12:59 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
