The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Ron Cannan, Don Davies, Hon. Wayne Easter, Russ Hiebert, Gerald Keddy, Hon. Rob Merrifield, Marc-André Morin, Annick Papillon, Jasbir Sandhu, Bev Shipley and Devinder Shory.

 

Acting Members present: Bob Dechert for Ed Holder.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Chief, Macroeconomics and Trade; Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Forest Products Association of Canada: Andrew Casey, Vice-President, Public Affairs and International Trade. Canadian Apparel Federation: Bob Kirke, Executive Director. Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association of Canada: David Worts, Executive Director. Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance: Kathleen Sullivan, Executive Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of a comprehensive and high-level economic partnership agreement (EPA) with Japan.
 

Andrew Casey and Bob Kirke made statements and answered questions.

 

At 11:56 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:59 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

David Worts and Kathleen Sullivan made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Don Davies moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Standing Committee on International Trade immediately commence a study on the subject matter related to the sections of Bill C-38, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 29, 2012 and other measures, which directly fall within the mandate of this committee, namely Part 4, Division 32, Canadian International Trade Tribunal Act.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Gerald Keddy moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Ron Cannan, Bob Dechert, Russ Hiebert, Gerald Keddy, Bev Shipley, Devinder Shory — 6; NAYS: Don Davies, Wayne Easter, Marc-André Morin, Annick Papillon, Jasbir Sandhu — 5.

 

At 12:48 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:51 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

At 12:58 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
