The Standing Committee on Health met in a televised session at 11:12 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dave Batters, Bonnie Brown, Hon. Brenda Chamberlain, Patricia Davidson, Nicole Demers, Rick Dykstra, Steven John Fletcher, Christiane Gagnon, Rob Merrifield and Penny Priddy.

 

Acting Members present: Ruby Dhalla for Hon. Ken Dryden.

 

Associate Members present: Tina Keeper and James Lunney.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst; Sonya Norris, Analyst; Odette Madore, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Tony Clement, Minister of Health.

 

Witnesses: Department of Health: Morris Rosenberg, Deputy Minister; Hélène Gosselin, Associate Deputy Minister; Chantale Cousineau-Mahoney, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Financial Officer Branch. Public Health Agency of Canada: David Butler-Jones, Chief Public Health Officer; Luc Ladouceur, Chief Financial Officer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2006-2007: Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 under HEALTH referred to the Committee on Tuesday, April 25, 2006.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 
At 12:59 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
 

At 1:05 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of a new strategy for the prevention of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.
 

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Christiane Gagnon, it was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $5,700.00, for the study on Silicone Gel-Filled Breast Implants, be adopted.

 

At 1:25 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
