The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Colleen Beaumier, Bonnie Brown, Patrick Brown, Patricia Davidson, Steven John Fletcher, Rahim Jaffer, Susan Kadis, Luc Malo, Rob Merrifield and Penny Priddy.

 

Acting Members present: Guy André for Luc Malo and Nicole Demers for Christiane Gagnon.

 

Other Members present: Hon. Joe McGuire.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sonya Norris, Analyst; Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: University of British Columbia: Steve Morgan, Assistant Professor, Centre for Health Services and Policy Research. University of Alberta: Devidas Menon, Professor, School of Public Health. As an individual: Jean-Claude St-Onge, Author and Professor at Lionel-Groulx College.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, December 12, 2006, the Committee resumed its study on Prescription Drugs (Common Drug Review).
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 
At 5:10 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
 

At 5:14 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That officials from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the Pest Management Regulatory Agency and the Hazardous Materials Information Review Commission, previously scheduled to appear before the Committee on May 30 on the subject of possible regulatory changes, be now asked to appear on May 28 with the addition of officials from Health Canada; and that in order to accommodate this change, the meeting previously scheduled on Bill C-42, An Act to amend the Quarantine Act, be now moved to May 30, 2007.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Prescription Drugs.
 

The Committee provided drafting instructions for the preparation of the draft report on the Common Drug Review, as part of the study on Prescription Drugs.

 

At 5:36 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
