The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 11:45 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Colin Mayes, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Rod Bruinooge, Jean Crowder, Marc Lemay, Yvon Lévesque, Colin Mayes, Hon. Anita Neville, Todd Norman Russell and Brian Storseth.

Acting Members present: Pablo Rodriguez for Hon. Larry Bagnell.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst ; Tonina Simeone, Analyst.

Witnesses: Native Women's Association of Canada: Yvonne Boyer, Legal Advisor; Mary Eberts, Legal Advisor. Assembly of First Nations: Phil Fontaine, National Chief; Richard Jock, Chief Executive Officer; Candice Metallic, Legal Counsel; Lisa Abbott, Senior Policy Analyst, Strategic Policy, Planning and Law.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, February 21, 2007, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-44, An Act to amend the Canadian Human Rights Act.

At 11:49 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:56 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Yvonne Boyer made an opening statement and, with Mary Eberts answered questions.

At 12:44 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:51 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Phil Fontaine made an opening statement and, with Richard Jock, Candice Metallic and Lisa Abbott answered questions.

At 1:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
